Deliberate Whimsy?
In Summer 2011, I taught a multi-genre studio class. For one of our activities, we wrote mottos. Mine was: live deliberately and with whimsy. And it has stuck with me ever since. I want fun and adventure and romance in my life, and I want to actively pursue those things...to deliberately craft my life to include those things.
Kitchen & Closet is my space to document my favorite things: fashion, home decor, food, wine, and entertaining. I love shopping and putting together thematic wishlists and presents. I'm addicted to the fashion inspiration of sites like Anthropologie as well as fashion blogs. Kyle and I are creative, experimental cooks and love learning about the cultures and cuisines of different regions. We also love sharing our cooking and great wine finds with family friends, so a dinner party is always in the works at our house. Visit Kitchen & Closet for more...
In The Classroom, I reflect on how I bring the ideas of deliberateness and whimsy into my teaching. I want my students to pursue something in their lives - not just a high school diploma or college education or well-paying job, though those are all things I value. Rather, I want them to see life as a pursuit of more than just the materialistic and to actively pursue whatever that may be. I share free web tools and ways to use them, discuss how to integrate the arts across the curriculum, and reflect on effective strategies, lessons, and activities. Pop into The Classroom to learn more and to share some of your own strategies and questions...
