Friday night we had dinner in before heading out to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream in downtown Ann Arbor. I’ve never seen the play performed; I've only seen the movie. In the film the imagery is like something out of a Rococo fairytale: lush, glowing, flowering, and romantic. That’s what I was expecting, but that’s not what I got. What I got was even better... Ranna Gill's Back View Dress: Anthropologie Beaded Cardi: Lane Bryant Gray Tights: Lane Bryant Velvet Ankle-Strap Heels: Viktor The imagery was something out of Mad Max: Thunderdome. Edgy, industrial music with goth costumes and total gender confusion. Girls playing guys, guys playing girls: a true carnivalesque performance. The play was well-acted and wheezing-so-hard-I-needed-my-inhaler hilarious. What was great was that as the play went on, the gender confusion was no longer a distraction. We really got absorbed in the characters, the plot, and the themes of love, control, and chaos, and how the three are truly interwoven. It was rollicking fun. University of Michigan students really do put on spectacular, professional performances. We’re now three for three is just the past couple of years.

I call this my "Wonderland" dress because it's so colorful. And I first wore it to an Alice in Wonderland themed dinner party. I actually really love this dress, especially finding different ways to style it. It's wild in every way: wild print, wild colors, a knotted panel in the back, batwing and cape-like sleeves, etc. Sometimes, like in this outfit, I try to tone it tone a bit with a black cardigan. But it's still loud.

About LizI love teaching. I do. But since I started teaching four years ago, it's defined my entire life. What did I do before I became a teacher? I shopped, cooked, decorated, played dress-up, and went out on the town. And I'm reclaiming that past and all-too-infrequent-in-the-present life of mine! Good Reads* Anthromollogies
